Move here, but instead go to Santa Monica College until you get residency. Then transfer to a 4 year. It's so much cheaper, plus then you can research all the schools in the area before making a final decision. And then the University's are cheaper. Live in Santa Monica or Culver City. They are both rent controlled. Mar Vista, Venice, Palms, and West L.A. are also inexpensive. All of these areas will enable you to get around by a great bus system too. I moved here from Arizona to do the same thing. I went to SMC, got my residency, transferred to UCLA, lived in Culver City, and it was awesome! I am still living here, and I graduated from UCLA with very minimal debt from doing the community college thing first. Plus, SMC is the #1 transfer school in Cali.
