The pros and cons of being an auto mechanic?

well i'm thinking of going on to college next year to be a mechanic. i am a girl so that might make things a lil difficult. i'm not that great with math, i can measure stuff- measuring tape, vernier caliper, etc. i'm not the brightest person in the world but i'm not totally retarded either. the physical part like lifting i can handle, i'm just curious what are the hardest things about working on an engine, and the all around job requirements?
