Why do other people first have to tell you about God?

You have to be told about god for the same reason you had to be told about Santa, Zeus or unicorns - it is simply a cultural construct not reality. Even those who believe in religion can't agree very much about it hence there are hundreds (thousands?) of religions with very different beliefs.
